My Experience With Bikini-Exopa Young Model Maame Serwaa

Maame Serwaa Britton
Twenty-one-year-old reigning winner of Exopa’s modeling contest, Maame Serwaa Britton, has said it was a daunting task for her to walk on the runway in a bikini for the first time.
But after days of rehearsing, acquiring confidence and believing in herself and her body, she now says “wearing a bikini is normal.”
Maame beat 11 other wannabe models on a competitive night of catwalks, good confidence, posture and talent display at the March edition of the Exopa New Face contest.
She had a tough time outshining the other contestants but she stretched away with her unique salsa dance during the talent segment.
She told NEWS-ONE in an exclusive interview that ahead of the show, her main challenge and fear was wearing bikini on the runway.

“I was shy doing the bikini segment but it was ok. After I heard, there was going to be a bikini segment, I felt very shy. Yes I’m the shy type because any time I go to the poolside or the beach I don’t bath because of bikini. So I just walk around and sit somewhere and have my drinks. That’s all. But during our rehearsals for the Exopa contest, we had to rehearse in bikinis. That day, I didn’t know how to come out. I was shivering. But during the main show it was normal to me. It was as if it was something I like doing. It was ok. I did my thing on the runway and I felt normal.
“After the show, I now love to wear bikini always. I feel like going to the poolside everyday just to wear bikini because it is normal. People wear bikini at the beach and the poolside and I think the only difference is when you are on the runway; you smear a little oil on your skin just to look sexy. Aside that it is normal,” she said.
Maame hails from the Eastern Region of Ghana, precisely Anum. She is the last of two sisters and attended Prince Boateng Memorial Junior High School and Anum Presbyterian Senior High School. She enjoys laughing, dancing, singing, cooking and above all modeling. She admires Tyra Banks and is happy her family supports her modeling career. She hopes to be Miss Ghana one day.
Her Salsa dance on the Exopa runway was what made her stand out from the crowd of contestants.
“I learnt how to dance Salsa through my mum’s friend’s daughter, Mimi. She became my friend and actually forced me to go for rehearsals with her,” she said.
She said she decided to go into modeling because she had always wanted to be a beauty queen.
She took part in the Miss ANSEC 2008 and won. That began her modeling career. The pageant served as a platform to practice her modeling.
After school, she joined the Exopa Modeling School to harness her skills. While in the school, she decided to take part in the Exopa New Face Contest and she won.
