After the award ceremony, which attracted countless controversies, she tweeted on social network, twitter, about how grateful and thankful she was to all manner of people who supported.
“…Thanks guys for the wishes and support you gave Contract. Still in the cinemas in Nigeria, run in your heels and sneakers and see it. Love to all,” she tweeted.
Yvonne’s ‘Contract’ directed by award winning movie director, Shirley Frimpong Manso, surprisingly didn’t pick any award after six nominations.
Some critics said Yvonne was robbed. The Best Actress in Lead role, which was highly tipped for either Yvonne or Rita Dominic, went to South African actress Florence Masebe for her role in the film ‘Elewani’. ‘Contract’s’ lead actor Hlomla Dandala lost the actor in lead role category to the late Nigerian actor, Justus Esiri.
Again, the movie lost the Best Director, Achievement In Screenplay and Achievement In Editing’ to Nigeria’s ‘Heroes & Zeroes’ while South Africa’s ‘Elewani’ took Best Achievement In Production Design.
Many had thought Okoro could have at least picked an award with the movie, which is breaking barriers. Many are still in shock.
However, Nollywood stakeholders are congratulating Yvonne Okoro on the quality of her movie and her performance in The Contract.
“I love your acting; you did very well in that movie,” Nollywood Best Actor in Lead role nominee O.C. Ukeje tapped the Ghanaian actress on her shoulder, a few minutes after South African actress Florence Masebe was mentioned as the winner of best actress.
Top Nollywood director cum producer, Lancelot Imasuen, walked up to her and said, “Finally I have met this lady. Congratulations!” Dr. Adebola Ademeso, a Theatre Arts lecturer from the Lagos State University, also congratulated Yvonne on her performance.
At the ceremony, Yvonne was beautifully dressed in Badgley Mischka white dress to match with her Karen Millien purse. Ghanaian actors also received amazing attention on the red carpet from Nollywood media.
