Umar Krupp |
Spirited Actor star, Umar Krupp has described playing gay in the upcoming
movie, ‘House of Gold’ as very
challenging, considering the fact that being gay is a very sensitive topic in
Ghana at the moment.
He however decided to accept the role because he fell in love with the
entire script of the movie, which stars top Ghanaian actors, Yvonne Nelson,
Majid Michel, Eddie Watson and a host of others including Nigerian music star, Ice
Prince.
The movie which is premiering on Friday, April 12, at the National
Theatre in Accra is Umar’s first movie after Spirited Actor reality show. He
looks up to firmly stepping his feet in the industry with his role.
He told NEWS-ONE yesterday that it was not easy to let go of the gay
character in a short while after long weeks of behaving like a woman.
“I wasn’t convinced about playing such a role for my first movie
Because of what people and the
public will think about me but the story was good and I took it...I read the
script and fell in love with the story. I took script and I accepted the role,”
Umar said.
“It was very
difficult switching from being a man to a woman for the long days of shooting.
It wasn’t easy to let go the character after the movie,” he added.
Umar was one of the finalists selected to represent Ghana in the
Spirited Actor reality show held in the United States.
The Spirited Actor, organised by Davies Media Group and Paradise
Entertainment, is a show anchored by celebrity acting coach Tracy Moore.
The contestants were chosen from Ghana and Nigeria to compete against
each other. Umar happens to be the youngest of them all, yet one of the most
outspoken, gifted, hilarious and memorable.
His role in the ‘House of Gold’ promises
to live long with him since it is his first movie. He is expected to join the
star studded premiere on Friday.
Currently all appears to be going well for Umar. He is also doing a
project with actress Luckie Lawson on her upcoming reality show dubbed ‘Beyond Beauty.’ He is one of the hosts
of the show.
