Sarkodie in Canada |
BET
Award winner and Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie gathered one of the biggest crowds
ever over the weekend when he performed in Canada.
This
took place a few days after he pic
ked Best International Act Award (Africa) at
the internationally recognized Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards, which came off at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on July
1.
It
was Sarkodie’s first time performance in Canada, and it happened inside the Rox
Nightclub.
With
Ghana’s untouchable disc jockey, DJ Mensa behind the turntables, Sarkodie put
up one of his best rap performance. Music fans could not stop screaming his
name while singing along and taking snapshots of him.
The
show also featured some local talents from Toronto and New York. Among them
were Lighter, GLR, Osagyefo, Kabano, Freeman Nadawo and Shelly X Banks.
Back home, reports said the
Vice-Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2012
general elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, had congratulated Sarkodie for winning
the country’s first ever BET
award.
Dr. Bawumia was reportedly speaking to
journalists at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) Thursday night before his
departure to the United States and Canada for a working visit. He expressed his
delight at the feats chalked by some Ghanaians in recent times, citing
Sarkodie’s award and Black Stars midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah’s move to Juventus.
The astute and elated politician was
quoted by Joy FM entertainment saying, “I want to congratulate our champions…
Sarkodie for his BET award, Kwadwo Asamoah just got transferred to Juventus and
congrats on that … we wish all of them well.”
He was positive that there were many
more talented Ghanaians who were also going to conquer on the international
stage, calling on all to “stand ready to support them, encourage and push them
to take Ghana’s name higher on the international stage”.
