The much-anticipated premiere of ‘Phone Swap’ by awarding-winning director Kunle Afolayan is scheduled for the Silverbird Cinema in Accra, Thursday evening, April 5.
The premiere is expected to gather the crème of Ghana’s movie industry and some stakeholders from Nollywood. Among them will be the cast and crew of the movie.
Last week, Nollywood’s sensational actress Nse Ikpe Etim and director Afolayan arrived in Ghana ahead of the major premiere on Thursday April 5 at the Silverbird Cinema in Accra.
Nse and Kunle arrived in Accra as part of plans ahead of the main event and have since been granting interviews about their roles in the production.
They were at the Silverbird Cinema on Friday for the movie’s media viewing and could not hide their feelings about being in Ghana again. Both of them have been to Ghana before.
At the Silverbird Cinema with them were 2010 and 2011 African Movie Academy Awards Best Actress In Lead Role winners Lydia Forson and Ama K Abebrese.
Nse hoped for a nice experience with her Ghanaian fans as she had started to learn how to speak Twi from Lydia Forson to communicate with them.
The film, which parades award-winning stars like Joke Silva, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Wale Ojo, Lydia Forson among others, dwells on two strangers who bump into each other in an airport and mistakenly swap their identical Blackberry phones.
This leads to a destination mix-up after they receive one another's text regarding a travel destination; and neither knows about the swap until they have reached their opposite destinations. As the plot thickens, new dimensions are instigated.
As a result of the phone swap, they agree to help carry out each other’s mission, armed with the information and data on each other's phone. But it's not as easy as they both think as new obstacles and complications rise at every turn as they both struggle to adapt to their alien environment and situation.
The movie follows in the tradition of Kunle Afolayan’s earlier movies, critically-acclaimed ‘Irapada’ and award-winning, ‘Figurine’.
The movie has an entertaining storyline, unique pictures, and interesting characters. Above all, it reminds Africans about their roots, as Afolayan fused Yoruba, Twi, English and other Nigerian dialects and subtitled them.
It is a good movie which can attract an international audience. Advance tickets for the grand premiere of ‘Phone Swap’ on April 5 at the Silverbird Cinemas are on sale for GH¢20 (regular) and GH¢50 (VIP) at the Silverbird Lifestyle Store at the Accra Mall.
