Cannes Film Festival This May

The 65th edition of the annual international Cannes Film Festival returns in France this May.
Ghanaian stakeholders at Cannes Film Festival last year
The event is scheduled to take off May 16 till May 27 when every activity will be climaxed. As usual, preparations are ongoing to make the world film festival historic.
Last year, stakeholders from Ghana’s movie industry and winners of the prestigious Ghana Movie Awards made their debut appearance at the festival.
This year, some Ghanaian representatives are preparing to attend the ceremony, which parades the best of world’s acclaimed superstars and filmmakers every year.
Described as the biggest film festival on earth, it was created on the initiative of Jean Zay, Minister for Education and Fine Arts, who was keen to establish an international cultural event in France to rival the Venice Film Festival.
The first edition of the festival was originally set to be held in Cannes in 1939 under the presidency of Louis Lumière. However, it was not until over a year after the war ended that it finally took place, on 20 September 1946. It was subsequently held every September - except in 1948 and 1950- and then every May from 1952 onwards.
Over the years, the festival has been tagged one of the most celebrated film festivals which come off as an award ceremony as well.
As usual, it is anticipated to attract a lot of movie stakeholders from across the world.
