Eddie Watson with the children  and officials of the Orphanage

Liberian born Ghanaian actor Eddie Watson has stretched a hand of benevolence to children at New Life Orphanage International at Nungua, a suburb of Accra.
The fine actor offered to sponsor a year’s fees of one of the orphans, Emily Quaye, a student of Armed Forces Senior High School.
He also made a donation of items worth over GH¢1200 to the orphans, on behalf of Next Media Concept & Afrodiva Entertainment, which he is signed to.
Among the items were clothes, shoes, sandals and drinks, with meals sponsored by Chicken Republic. He also added a cash amount of GH¢500. After the donation at the orphanage, Next Media Concept and Afrodiva Entertainment organized a fun trip for the children to the Sajuna Beach Resort at Atimpoku.
Speaking at the donation ceremony Eddie Watson said giving to underprivileged persons was one of his and his management’s core values.
He promised that the donation would not be their last, adding that he would encourage his fellow actors and other celebrities and philanthropists to come to their aid.
CEO of the home, Cephas Afotey, took Eddie, his management team and the media on a tour of the orphanage.
He said the orphanage had been in existence for about 12 years and had over 44 children at the home.
The main reason for establishing the orphanage, he revealed, was to get orphans off the street and give them some level of education.
Currently, he said, transport, water and getting the children education were some of the challenges they had to deal with.
“It has not been easy. We don’t have sponsors. We don’t have NGOs supporting us. But this work has increased my faith in the Lord. If we don’t have anything, we called the children and we pray and before we see God answers our prayers. We have a lot of challenges. One is the means of transport, water is also a problem. We want a borehole. We need education materials as well and how to pay teachers. We pay not less than GH¢1500 a month, meanwhile we don’t have an organization giving us money where we budget but every day we trust in God,” he added.
