TWO GHANAIAN actors, Majid Michel and John Dumelo, were yesterday adjudged the overall Best Actor Leading Role and Best Actor Supporting Role respectively at the Nollywood & African Film Critics’ Awards (NAFCA) held at North Carolina in the United States.
NEWS-ONE gathered that Majid and Dumelo beat their counterparts from all over Africa to grab the two prestigious awards.
While Majid earned the award for his role in ‘Somewhere In Africa’ directed by Frank Raja, John Dumelo won for his role in Abdul Salam’s ‘Chelsea’.
Director Frank Raja also picked up the Best Director award for ‘Somewhere In Africa’.
No Ghanaian actress had picked any award as at press time, but there were reports that their Nigerian counterparts had swept the awards in the female categories.
‘Somewhere In Africa’ also won Best Film and Best Screen Play.
‘Why Marry’, the first two-cast movie in Ghana featuring Majid Michel and Yvonne Okoro, also won Best Comedy.
The award was held in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA on September 16 and 17 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Convention Center Durham, North Carolina.
It created a lot of controversy in Ghana following reports that a number of nominees were denied Visa by the American Embassy.
