Actress Yvonne Nelson and others are expected to lift Ghana’s flag high in neighboring Nigeria, where she has been nominated for City People Awards’ Best actress category.
The nomination is not based on a particular role in a movie but her general performance in both Ghana and Nigeria movies for past years.
The award ceremony is scheduled for Lekki, a plush area in Nigeria on Sunday August 7. The leggy actress is expected to make Ghana proud.
Fellow sexy actresses Khareema Aguiar, Martha Ankomah, Beverly Afaglo, and Nana Ashorkor have been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the same awards.
Reports say a tall list of other Ghanaians actors will be in Nigeria this weekend for the awards ceremony.
Yvonne is one of the few Ghanaian actresses committed to giving back to their society, via her glaucoma foundation. The actress has been leading a campaign against glaucoma since last October, after launching her glaucoma foundation. She recorded a song and video on glaucoma which featured stars John Dumelo, Majid Michel, Bola Ray, Sarkodie and a number of others.
The song picked up a prize at the Ghana Music Awards. Besides adopting a glaucoma victim to cater for his medical expenses, she also donated GH¢1000 to support the Glaucoma Association of Ghana Fund to help patients afford medication.
Currently, she is organizing glaucoma essay competition in various basic schools across the country. She has since been encouraging school children to partake in the essay competition in which the main winner will win a two-week holiday trip to the UK and other attractive prizes including laptops and a chance to work with her foundation.
