Ghanaian
musician JaGa has said he is hoping to cause a stir on the music scene this
year with his latest single.
Born
Michael Mensah, JaGa is not a new face in industry. He has been flirting with
the music industry for quite some time and was part of the Hiplife revolution
in the mid-90s.
He
teamed up with a childhood friend along the way to form a music group called
North Rydaz. The group never released an album; however it managed to make
waves with a few singl
es it released, especially ‘Wo feeli’, a song which got airplay on GBC Radio back then. The
song also earned the group a performance spot on Agoro TV show which was
broadcast on GTV.
After
some time, the two separated to pursue other interests. JaGa went ahead to do
other things including completing a bachelor’s degree at the Kwame Nkrumah
University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
After
all these years, he decided to bounce back on the music scene. So last year, he
made a return with the release of a four-track mixtape titled ‘Testing Mic’. The mixtape was
exclusively released and promoted on the internet; yet some of the songs made
their way on a couple of radio stations in Ghana. ‘Hot Gals’, one of the songs on the mixtape, found its way on New
York-based internet radio ClubHiplife’s top 100 most-played songs in October
last year.

JaGa
said he planned to release a second pre-album mixtape before the end of the year
and was currently busy in the studio working on the eight-track project which would
feature artistes like Stay Jay, Bradez, Cabum and Louisika.
‘Let’s Roll’, the first
single from his sophomore mixtape which he titled ‘Getting’ Ready’, is due for release next
week.
“You
know I’ve kept so long in the oven so you should expect some real hot stuff from
me,” he said.
When
asked about the future, he stated that he believed he had a great future in
Ghana music. “So everyone should watch out for me,” he added.
