The
film industry in Ghana is getting hotter, with ace Ghanaian actress Selassie
Ibrahim taking her other calling as a producer a step further.
On
Saturday night, the actress’s Smarttys Management and Production made history
with the outdooring of two new movies during a ceremony at the plush Golden
Tulip in Kumasi.
The
new movies, ‘Shackles’ and ‘Secret Burden’, stars Ekow Blankson,
John Dumelo, Desmond Elliot, Nadia Buari, Jackie Appiah, James Gardner, Rosleyn
Ngissah, Beverly Afaglo and others.
Both
movies were screened and subsequently auctioned at the celebrity-studded
outdooring in Kumasi. It is the first time a Ghanaian producer has screened two
different movies to an august audience on the same night.
Both
movies tried to tackle salient issues affecting particularly families and
marriages worldwide while actors Ekow Blankson, John Dumelo, Nadia Buari,
Jackie Appiah, James Gardner, Roselyn Ngissah, and Beverly Afaglo among others
took their acting prowess to a different level.
The
outdooring ceremony was one of a kind, with amazing musical performances by
Tagoe Sisters, Kwabena Kwabena and Ohemaa Mercy.
Controversial
Abeiku Santana was MC for the evening.
Some
of the invited guests were Eddie Anane of the National Democratic Party, Dan
Botchway of the New Patriotic Party, PV Obeng, and a host others. The special
guest of honour, Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, Paramount Chief of Owirenkyi
traditional area, in a speech revealed how he had wanted to act right from childhood.
Star
actresses Juliet Ibrahim, Nadia Buari, Jackie Appiah, John Dumelo, and Selassie
Ibrahim brought some excitement to the red carpet when they posed for the
cameras with classy looks.
Even
though the ceremony was strictly by invitation, quite a number of uninvited persons
were there to catch a glimpse of the movies and the star-studded event.
Selassie
Ibrahim has produced four movies so far within a period of two years.
She
returned onto the screens in 2010 after what was described as a hiatus.
Interestingly, she didn’t return only as an actress but also a producer with
some enormous strength to move the Ghanaian movie industry to the next level.
Hence
she came out with her first produced movie titled ‘The CEO’, and her TV programme and lifestyle magazine, both
christened, ‘Smart People,’ all under
her Smarttys Management and Production company.
Not
long after those productions, she also produced the captivating TV series; ‘The
Miser’.
