Leila Djansi’s award-winning film, ‘Sinking Sands’, is now on DVD and it is set for market release in Ghana today, Monday, November 28.
The film had earlier been released in the USA and reports said there was mad rush for copies.

The Ghana release will give movie fans and enthusiasts an opportunity to own copies of the movie and enjoy it from the comfort of their homes.

‘Sinking Sands’ is a psychological drama that dwells on the abuse of women in societies today, and is being told with the intention of creating awareness about the continuous existence of abuse in today’s households.

The movie touches on two lovebirds, Jimah (Jimmy) and Pabi (Ama K Abrebese), a match made in heaven, until a fatal accident turns Jimah into a monster. Endless days of wife battery become a part of their relationship. Pabi has a chance to flee but her guilt makes her stay, hoping and praying that Jimah will change and life will go back to normal. Her fear of living alone without a family is a weakness Jimah knows she has and he makes every effort to capitalize on it. But how long will Pabi endure? At what cost will she buy her freedom?

The movie stars top actors as Yemi Blaq from Nollywood, Doris Sackitey, Chris Attoh and others.

It was wrapped up in Ghana early last year and was outdoored for a public view at the National Theatre in Accra in November last year.

Prior to that was a VIP premiere, which had very important personalities from various sectors of Ghana’s society seeing the film.

On December 25, 2010, Sinking Sands’ bagged four awards - Best Picture, Best Art Direction, Best Wardrobe, Best Movie (West African Collaboration) at the Ghana Movies Awards.

The film, in March 2011, also produced Africa’s Best Actress at the African Movie Academy Awards in Nigeria.

It also produced the Best Actress at the Zimbabwe Film Festival. Current reports say the movie is doing well in Nollywood cinemas.
