Director Shirley Frimpong Manso’s ‘Adams Apples’ series came close with 20 nominations while Frank Raja’s ‘Somewhere in Africa’ followed with 14.
Shirley, as a producer, is ahead of the entire nominations with 23 for her 5 movies- ‘Adams Apples 1, 2, 3, 4’ and ‘6 Hours To Christmas’.
‘6Hours To Christmas’ bagged three nominations- Best Actor Leading (Christ Attoh), Best African Movie Collaboration and Best Actress African Collaboration (Damilola Adegbeti).
Other movies that got nominations include ‘4play Reloaded’, ‘Masqueraders’, ‘Single Six’, ‘Bed of Roses’, ‘Why Marry’ and ‘Grave Yard’.
This year’s nominations were released during a party at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi which a number of movie stakeholders including actors and actresses attended.
Among them were veterans Fred Amugi and David Dontoh.
The rest included John Dumelo, Prince David Osei, Agya Koo, Nadia Buari, Vicky Zugah, Martha Ankomah, Emelia Brobbey, Beverly Afaglo and Helen Asante.
Yvonne Nelson, Jackie Appiah, Nana Ama Mcbrown, Majid Michel and others were missing in action.
But it was an interesting night as star actor Agya Koo entertained guests after he got hold of the microphone to display his musical talent.
This year’s awards will come off on Christmas Day, December 25, to celebrate excellence in Ghana’s movie industry.
The awards, organized by G.P. Limited, in collaboration with Multi TV’s Cine AFRIK Channel and Film Producers Association of Ghana, is also to honor and recognize talents in Ghana’s improving movie and film industry.
Supported by Lufthansa Airlines, Golden Tulip Hotel (Accra, Kumasi and Lagos), United Airlines and Brussels Airlines, it promises to be exciting and one of a kind.
The usual controversies that accompany awards ceremony have just started.
