Top Ghanaian actress Selassie Ibrahim has demonstrated that she is not just a woman of the silver screens, but also an advocate for keeping the environment clean and also a strong character that will go to any length to support a good cause. Last Saturday, the beautiful actress of many years and CEO of Smarttys Management & Production did something many of her colleagues in the film industry will dare not do. She took some time off her busy schedule to clean choked gutters at the Nima Market, a suburb of Accra. She joined her production team at Smartyys Management & Production, with assistance from Zoomlion, to do the cleanup exercise as part of the one year anniversary celebration of her Smart People TV programme. The exercise was aimed at encouraging indigenes to inculcate the habit of keeping their environment clean. Also, it was her way of supporting and giving back to society. Azonto Dance In D’banj’s New Video

Ghana’s Azonto Dance is gradually filtering into every corner of world music. The dance moves have gotten some spotlight in D’Banj’s official video for his ‘Oliver Twist’ hit song, which featured cameo appearances by Eddie Kadi, Sneakbo, Big Seun and Kanye West and directed by Sesan. Sources said the video was leaked as it was yet to be officially released. Dancers in the video borrowed a few steps from Azonto while a popular UK Azonto dancer, whose Azonto video garnered attention on YouTube recently, also made his usual Azonto moves in the video. Luckie Lawson’s movie, ‘Familiar Strangers’, starring top stars John Dumelo, Nana Ama McBrown, Roselyn Ngissah, and Prince David was   released for the market last Monday, March 19. The movie made the headlines months ago after a successful executive premiere on December 17 at new Maya Cova Restaurant, behind Manye Home Art Gallery in La.      The event brought together the corporate world and kings and queens of Ghana and Nigeria’s movie industries. Prince David taking his HIV & AIDS test As part of efforts to give back to society, prolific Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei’s charity foundation on Saturday organised a health screening and fitness programme for students at the Labone Senior High School in Accra. The rationale was to use his foundation to encourage the youth in particular to inculcate the habit of living healthy lifestyles by knowing their HIV status through screening and regular check-ups. At the event, the PDO Foundation screened students for HIV/AIDS, Malaria Parasite, Syphilis, Sugar Level, Blood Pressure. Blows Over ‘Somewhere In Africa’ Movie Ends

Frank Rajah NEWS-ONE has gathered that award-winning Ghanaian movie ‘ Somewhere In Africa’ will finally hit the big screen in Ghana on April 7, months after director Frank Rajah Arase, and movie marketer and producer, Double D, engaged in a fierce fight over the movie. The movie was to be premiered on July 30 last year but couldn’t take place due to their fight. One of the two men reportedly refused to release the edited copy of the movie for the premiere over issues bordering on ownership and money. That led to the indefinite postponement of the premiere. Reports said top guns in the movie industry tried to intervene but to no avail.   Sources told NEWS-ONE over the weekend that the two controversial personalities had now eaten humble pie and settled their differences. It is commonly said that coming events always cast their shadows and recent happenings seem to suggest that some figures in Ghana’s movie industry may be switching to full music.    Following reports of veteran actor Kojo Dadson’s preparation to release his album, a young figure in the movie industry, Lucky Caleb Ayivor, a producer and director of Ghanaian movies ‘Love 4 Rent’ and ‘Billy’, is also announcing his presence on the music scene. Ayivor has recorded a very interesting R&B song which is geting some attention on the airwaves. Chichi Neblett This year appears to have started well for Liberian born Ghanaian actress Chichi Neblette, who has started enjoying some level of success in Ghana’s film industry. Less than a month after reports of her being spotted on the set of a big time TV commercial for BO16, featuring Yvonne Nelson and Yvonne Okoro, she has joined the cast of ‘Peep’, the newest TV series being produced by TV3 and Sparrow Production.
