Africa
woke up last week to the tragic news of two airplanes crashing in Ghana and
Nigeria that claimed close to some 200 lives. As
families are yet to recover from losing the loved ones, tributes are still pouring
in from various people around the world.
Ghanaian
actress Yvonne Nelson is no exception as she appears to have been hit hard by
the news of the crashes. Yvonne is one of Ghana’s few actresses who love travelling
by air and there is no doubt that there is panic in the air now.
She is currently on set in Nigeria shooting her next movie with popular and controversial actress Tonto Dike and is still in shock about the crashes.
“My
condolences go to families of victims of the crashes and the dead. Rest in peace.
It was really terrifying to hear about the crashes. It was scary. It happened
on the third day of shoot in Nigeria and I couldn’t even shoot that day. I had
goose bumps all over and at night I couldn’t sleep,” she said when NEWS-ONE contacted her yesterday.
One
June 4, the morning after the last crash, Yvonne wrote on social network
twitter saying, “I couldn’t sleep last night. I was so sad because of the
crash. May their souls Rest In Peace. God help us. This is sad. Wake up
Nigeria.”
Nigeria’s
Allied Air Cargo plane crashed into a commercial Benz Bus and killed 10 people
when it overshot the runway at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on
Saturday June 2.
The
next day, Sunday, June 3, a Dana Air commercial airplane crashed while flying
from the Nigerian capital Abuja, to Lagos. All 153 people on board and an
estimated 100 persons on the ground were killed.
Yvonne
was not the only Ghanaian actor in Nigeria when both crashes took place: unconfirmed
reports said Majid Michel, Juliet Ibrahim and Nadia Buari were all in Nigeria
when the incident took place.
Currently,
there is no news of any Nollywood figure onboard the Dana Aircraft. But there
was a report of a musician missing his flight, thereby saving his life.
